In 1993-94, we gathered data through interviews with faculty and staff who had been involved with both technology-based and non-technology-based innovations. Some of the people were involved with projects that had moved from idea to broader implementation, such as electronic forum, and some had been involved with projects that had not made it past the idea stage.
We compiled our data and identified activities and features that were similar across projects answering the question: "Why do some projects succeed and others never move forward?" As we did our analysis we realized that innovations in and with technology are like other innovations and the committee name changed to Innovation, Collaboration and Implementation (ICI).
In 1994-95, we moved our analysis into a graphic format and produced our Charting Change: Idea to ImplementationÑIt's a River, Not a Lake brochure to disseminate our findings to everyone in the Maricopa Community Colleges interested in innovation, collaboration, and the implementation of change.
We have spent much time and energy this year implementing our idea: talking with Maricopa colleagues about using and modifying "Charting Change" to facilitate the planning, piloting, evaluating, and revising of change initiatives.
Such a format would enable us to include, but not be limited to:
This proposal would have the ICI committee participants working as a Project Team, rather than as a traditional committee, so we may refine the concept and develop an interactive multimedia product for the Web.
