description:
I have made Human Anatomy and Physiology (BIO 201 & 202) lab demonstrations which are in both a video cassette format and a DVD format. I show these demonstration films at the beginning of many of the labs as a way to introduce human anatomy models and histology to the students. The models and histology slide have been edited with labels of terms the students are responsible for on laboratory practical examinations. The PVCC student tutoring center (the Learning Support Center) and the PVCC library have copies of the tapes for student use. The students themselves also can get copies of these lab demonstrations from the PVCC Media Center for their own home use. Cranston Forte, PVCC Video Production Technician, has spent many hours editing, formatting, and producing these valuable learning tools for the students.
The demonstrations are also being made available to the students in DVD format, since many of them are more likely to have access to a computer or DVD player than to a VCR player.
I like the idea of recording the lab demonstrations because it ensures that all students taking a course receive the same exposure to the materials and if a student has to miss class for some reason, they can still view the same lab demonstration the other students saw. Many students have commented on how helpful the lab demonstrations are for their learning and for review before a lab test.
More details and presentation materials are available in the Maricopa Learning eXchange package for this session.
