Quizzes and activities at your fingertips - better yet, at a keystroke! How do you provide every student in your classroom with an individual test? How do you make review fun for students and effortless for the teacher? Quia.com http://www.quia.com and HotPotatoes http://web.uvic.ca/hrd/halfbaked/ are excellent support sites to save teacher time and excite students about new learning and reviewing.
Using features of the SMARTBoard - screen capture, SMART Notebook, and templates - the presenters will demonstrate the two web-based, interactive activities that involve students in large or small group activities. Hot Potatoes activities can be timed, which adds a hint of urgency. Students love the 'game' atmosphere in Quia and use competition to increase their learning. Another popular Quia feature is the online grading of quizzes. In addition, students can retain a history of their quiz scores in their own account folders.
Johna Jacobson and Mindi Kugler have both been recognized by the Cave Creek Unified School District for their innovations in technology. Jacobson earned a BS in Business Information at BYU and a Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix. She has been a presenter at the National School Board Association (NSBA) - Technology & Learning - Conference. Kugler is an Intel Teach to the Future Master Teacher and was recognized in 2000 as the high school's inaugural Tech Star. She was one of eleven teachers from the United States treated to an all-expense paid seminar at the SMART Tech facility in Calgary, British Columbia, in 2003. She has a BA in Elementary Education from ASU, has taught at the high school for 20 years, and was the outstanding graduate when she earned her MAOM from the University of Phoenix.
Most importantly, these ladies know how to have fun! Join them for a hands-on experience that will energize you and your students.
