"What is your level of interest in this demo topic? (1-5)": Average:
3.85 (N=75)
"What questions do you have?": (N=54)
- What is the relationship between MLX and Connexions?
- I would like more info on IP and creative commons.
- Are there any examples of open-access publishing in healthcare occupational programs?
- Still confused about Intellectual Property issues.
- What software available?
- None. Baraniuk is very knowledgeable.
- Who insures the content is kept up to date? How long does this stay?
- On average how long does it take to create modules or courses? Do people tend to use the OC for more 'static' topics or dynamic ones also?
- None.
- Will there be a community college lens? What will be he subsciption costs of the lenses?
- "Who is hosting Connexions server? What are you using to host this? OS, Hardware. This reminds me of a twist on the New Media Consortium 2014. Except with EDU content instead of news."
- "How can we get people in the District to share materials between campuses in a responsible way- give credit, be able to edit, so that we can avoid recreating the wheel?"
- "The Commons seems to answer the question of 'How to Access?' How does it help us with the issue of time, since it seems that the nature of Collaboration/Communication means that it requires time...? How can authors continuously reverse, update, maintain, etc.?"
- I need more info on IP protection.
- "Is MCCCD a member of Connexions? How can we get our faculty in there? Should we be promoting that instead of MLX? Is there a way we can make those work together? (I.e. one-login) one package slip? Or are they not related? Does Connexions have partnerships with other resources? (i.e. asset, united streaming, etc?)"
- Who gets credit? What about financial compensation? Who or where is the info housed/maintained?
- Who would organize the commons?
- What is MCCCD's role? How do we pilot or explore? How does this related to the RLO actiona group?
- I wanted to see more of the product.
- "1. If I write a topic using a software s.a. softchalk- what are the licensing requirements? (a) Must it be district wide? (b) "" "" "" school specific? ? Do students who are not enrolled in a particular class able to use it legally?"
- How do we sustain our enthusiasm for such great shake-up-the-publishing-industry ideas?
- When would this be implemented into my learning experience? What would it take to happen sooner?
- How to learn more about CC? Great presentation! Very timely and cutting edge thinking?
- How can we bring this to our campuses and the district? How willing is MCCD to become part of this? Can we bring a group of Maricopa people together to begin to look at this?
- How far is MLX from being a commons? This was great. I 'get' open source now. How can we really expand this at MCCCD?
- Do web development tool such as Dreamweaver generate XML documents? How does this impact Distance Leaning classes?
- "Are current academic publishers helping or hurting the 'commons' idea? What role could a publisher have in the future? I love the 'commons' idea, but this is America. Who makes the money? How do you reasonably ensure the academic quality of all of the information being shared? Publishers sometimes check the validity of manuscripts coming in. Who checks online? Is it equally effective?"
- How is material in the books verified (ex. Scientific materials)? And related to that. Would my work be associated with other authors' materials? I am concerned about veracity of the material.
- None at the moment.
- How do I play?
- How is computer commons financially supported?
- "XML- Need more info. Would like a summary handout with terms and webpages, etc. Course composer looks really cool along with XML converter."
- "The process of academic publishing not just books and articles, but videos, DVD's, and multi-media materials. Copyrihgt issues vs. publishing issues."
- "I appreciate the enormous potential for open-access. I do have some concerns (particularly for Wikimedia-type models) about who is contributing, and how much the know, or don?t know, but think they know...*Connexions not completely inclusive, so handles this question."
- Seems like it would take a lot of time to find useful info on connexions.
- What is available now and how does this differ from other open source services?
- How do you effectly encourage people to contribute to the commons?
- I am very interested in the potential of the Connexions process for improving K-12 education. Is anyone thinking about developing a curriculum bank with topics adjusted for different learning styles and languages (I.e. spanish)?
- "Seems as time consuming as creating your own course material, but filters should help that."
- I will be logging in.
- "1. Was this presentation done as a product? If not, why not? If so, where is it? 2. Where can faculty find out who owns Maricopa content? 3. When will Alan write an XML tutorial? 4. How does the use of Connexions impact Maricopa course compet.?"
- How interconnectedness could actually work within the current department structure that has some valid reasons for its existence.
- When will SBS courses be included in the connections project?
- "Can the ""Math"" be taught to students so then they could type and try sessions?"
- Copyright issues.
- How can open-access materials benefit students with disabilities?
- How long before one can use or have filters available?
- Any examples of instructors using this in Maricopa?
- How to begin contributing.
- How do you get involved? Who can participate? How are student researchers involved?
- How can I use this technology for a traditional life drawing class?
- Keynote speaker. What is/are cost/benefits of Connexions to public colleges?
- Quality.
- Would like to visit site.
"What would you need to use this idea?": (N=52)
- Models of content that can be used in gatekeeper courses at MCCD.
- "Workshop or webinarl can we get his presentation put on the MLX? Great and pertinent presentation, definitely gets you thinking."
- Would like to see or review examples of this concept in occupation programs (i.e. healthcare).
- See how to get involved.
- Love open access idea. Need it now.
- "Could implement now, if there is institutional support."
- Lots more info.
- The infrastructure and hands-on workshop on 'how to' use and contribute to open sources.
- Not interested.
- Time and possibly money.
- Are there plans to make a PDA viewer for Connexion? Or would this be an open source solution?
- Research Creative Commons- find out materials to train faculty to use the creative commons.
- Explore these resources.
- A mentor partner; a learning goal; time; does MCCD have a common IP framework?; would each college have its own technology framework? How can we find out more about Peer Review Lenses?
- Time.
- 1. User name and password. 2. Transcript of presentation to begin dialogue on my campus. 3. Membership for campus. 4. District wide leadership in open access; collaborative project (preferablt with ASU and K-12 schools).
- "If this grows, will you continue to house?"
- Time to sort content and decide how to use in class.
- Are you building a hierarchy at your lenses? (prefer no non-profit.)
- Creative Commons Liconsing. Just need more familiarity.
- Some more confidence and time.
- We would need others to accept this idea so it could happen sooner rather then later.
- Need Maricopa discussion on use of Connexions.
- I will check out both the Connexions Web site and Creative Commons we site this summer.
- Just simple access to MLX. I think MLX is it for MCCCD. Thanks!
- Cooperation and support from other divisions to integrate and communicate. Need some XML training. This is so cool. Students will be thrilled to have their textbook costs decrease.

- I will research how to make this available for our faculty.
- Access to the teaching materials that are being developed.
- Time to research and learn tools.

- Development of a plan that includes a sustainability model.
- "Time to investigate, integrate, compile, and produce student directions."
- Time.
- "1. An XML tutorial. 2. Time, time, timw (to read, learn, write) 3. Even though I am generating a numeric list now, this is extremely exciting because Connexions have thought of overcoming the 'traditional' road blocks to open source."
- More time to explore and write.
- "Brand new to me- more info (seminars, training)."
- Content in my areas.
- "The website with a lot of encouragemenet and time to get online. Right now, texts have advantages in that they provide objectives, outlines, format, and homework."
- A workshop.
- To see it in action.
- I think just explore and learn more about the repository.
- The XML converter. I am interested in the MathML.
- Detailed tutorial.
