The Technology Transfer Center is a joint project of Academic Information Systems (ACIS) of the IBM corporation, the League for Innovation in the Community College, and participating colleges. There are eight other colleges that have a Transfer Center. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL --------------------------- The Instructional Technology Centers are a consortium of community colleges dedicated to providing model facullty centers for accelerating the growth of faculty use of computer technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. The ITC colleges seek to accomplish this purpose by facilitating the transfer of instructional technology to community college faculty and staff through the consortium net vork of regionally distributed resource and training centers. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ The Transfer Center at GCC is located in the Innovation Center through which faculty and staff receive assistance with technical problems; as well as, software procurement, and training in the use of various applications of academic software with a focus on tools designed specifically for faculty in higher education. The Center also provides a place for faculty and staff to develop instructional programs that use technology. Faculty have assistance in the use of programming languages such as ToolBook and HyperCard, in addition to instructional design and graphic art, which along with the writing of the courseware provide a complete authoring solution. HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND L EARNING? ----------------------------------------------------------- The main focus is in the development of multimedia instructional material and classroom solutions such as computerized testing The center provides the ability to produce videotapes and compact disks for classroom applications. Laser disks can also be produced for instructional programs and testing. The Center provides a demonstration site for academic uses of multimedia technology with programs such as Ellis (English as a second language); Columbus: Encounter, Discovery, and Beyond; and Ulysses. These programs give a clear view of the magnitude and potential by teaching with multimedia CONTACT PERSON -------------- Charles West, GCC 435-5151
