MAPS (Monitoring Academic Progress System) ========================================== BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TOOL ------------------------- A subsystem within SIS that allows on-line creation of academic programs and subsequent creation of student audits against academic program(s). An audit is a status report which indicates what portion of the program requirements the student has completed and what remain unfinished. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL -------------------------- + MAPS eliminates the need for numerous checksheets and lists to process the student through to graduation. The audit encompasses the entire former process which was accomplished via hardcopy forms. + Substitutions, waivers, exemptions, and added requirements are entered on-line, thereby providing an immediate "picture" of the student's history pertaining to progress towards completion of a selected academic program. + An additional advisement tool allows the student's courses to be compared to any academic program offered, which provides a comprehensive picture of alternative programs the student might elect to enroll in. + Comments can be entered on-line, providing a history of the advisement that has occurred for the student, allowing more informed advisement capabilities. + As students approach graduation, MAPS provides Admissions and Records a rapid, accurate method to process the entire graduation class to completion using on-line screens and batch reports in place of the former time-consuming, hand- generated lists and reports. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ Admissions and Records, Advisement, Counseling, and students HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING? ---------------------------------------------------------- MAPS provides a rapid, accurate assessment of the student's current status toward completion of an academic program thus aiding faculty and administration to advise/guide the student to the best possible choices in obtaining his/her education at MCCCD.
