MCLI Library of Technology ========================== BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TOOL ------------------------- In response to an often-heard question of "What are other instructors doing with technology?", the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction (MCL) has produced a database of technological applications to improve teaching and learning. The MCLI "Library of Technology" database was developed as a means of sharing examples of how technology can be used to enhance instruction. It not only helps to cover what other faculty are doing, but can spark new, creative ideas and promote inter-college collaboration. The Library of Technology lists the name of the application, the person using/developing it, the course(s) it is used for, how long it took to develop, the name of the college, a contact phone number, hardware and software required, any reported results from using the technology, and other comments. The Library is a set of six HyperCard stacks- a main Library index and six individual volumes, grouped by subject: Fine Arts, Math & Science, Occupational Fields, Language Arts, and Social Science. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL -------------------------- The Library of Technology is readily available in electronic form from the MCLI Public file server (in the MCLI folder). The interface is a friendly HyperCard stack, with easy to use controls. The user can browse the Library, search by subject, or search for keywords. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ The Library is intended for anyone who wants to know what technology applications are being used and developed at MCCCD. It provides faculty with information about programs and instructors in their discipline so that they can share ideas. The Library also gives an overall impression of the breadth of technology used in the District. HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE AND LEARNING? ------------------------------------------------- The Library stimulates the exchange of ideas and may inspire new collaborations. It fills the need for increased communication among the colleges, and may help us to use our resources more efficiently in times of leaner budgets.
