Photo Image ID Card =================== BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TOOL ------------------------- The Photo Image ID Card system is the first of its kind within the Maricopa District. The system allows for the printing of a 'credit card' style ID, complete with photo image, barcodes, etc. in complete harmony with the SIS system. All barcodes are stored in a student's peronal record on the mainame system which also has the ability to check vital aspects of student's records to determine enrollment, debts, holds, etc. in real time. Barcodes can be generated 'on the fly' or via batch update jobs in the evening. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL -------------------------- NO LAMINATION ! Finally, a card can be produced without running it through a lamination process. A student can walk in and, in less than one minute, walk out with a photo image ID card. No more film or lamination equipment is needed. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ The obvious user of this tool is the student services areas. In the past, different IDs were issued for different areas on campus. Now that the ID card system is completely interfaced with SIS, only one card is needed for all different areas: fitness centers, library, etc. HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING? ---------------------------------------------------------- This process will streamline functions. It also has the ability to 'save' the graphical images, and may one day enable the 'storing' of those images in a student's files, thereby tightening security. Faculty members may also have the ability to print a graphical roster. CONTACT PERSON -------------- Bill DeHaan, MCC/Information Services 461-7284
