SAM (The Scheduling, Allocating and Monitoring System) ====================================================== BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TOOL ------------------------- This subsystem of the Student Information System (SIS) has three major components. The first component maintains demographic information for faculty and college facilities. The second component includes the development of the class schedule. The third major component provides on-line access to faculty teaching schedules and college facilities utilization. In addition, SAM supports users through its reporting capabilities and on-line documentation. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL -------------------------- Each new class schedule can be created by rolling selected features of a previous term's class schedule. Then SAM provides an interactive method for fine-tuning the building of this schedule. During the process, SAM checks for available faculty and facilities via room locations. These features help prevent unwanted time conflicts in scheduling faculty and rooms and provide accurate information for the final printed schedule. When properly and diligently used this system prevents extensive paper shuffling and duplication of effort regarding the impoltant task of scheduling and coordinating faculty, time, location, and reporting SAM also reduces the arnount of time necessary to produce a "printer ready" schedule, thus contributing to cost effectiveness. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ This system is used by personnel responsible for scheduling courses at each college. It is also available to faculty and administrative staff. HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHlNG AND LEARNING? ---------------------------------------------------------- The SAM System is a necessary and basic support for the teaching and learning process because it provides a coordinating system for determining the allotment of our faculty and facility resources and aids in the presentation of our schedules which are used by all students.
