SCM (Schedule Cost Modeling) ============================ BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TOOL ------------------------- Schedule Cost Modeling (SCM) provides the userwith a means for examining the past history of classes added to or canceled from the class schedule after the printed schedule has been prepared and, using this historical information, to project the cost impact of a proposed class schedule on the budget. IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TOOL -------------------------- The tool provides the user with a multi-year summary analysis of additions and cancellations affecting the class schedule (and thus the budget). A detailed report is also available, as well as an add/cancel rate analysis. The class schedule cost projection worksheet allows the user to apply the rates determined in the preceding analytical reports to the proposed class schedule and to estimate the cost impact of that schedule. This report can be generated periodically to monitor costs, as additions and/or cancellations occur throughout the term. WHO WOULD USE THIS TOOL? ------------------------ This system would be used by Deans and Department Chairs. HOW DOES THE TOOL SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING? ---------------------------------------------------------- In times of constrained financial resources, this tool allows administrators to monitor costs in order to optimize course offerings to meet student needs. The SCM will assist administrators in avoiding some cancellation of classes after the class schedule is published thus reducing student frustration and confusion.
