Who's Doing What with Technology?
During the retreat, attendees were encouraged to share specific examples of how they were using technology at their college. Ocotillo has set up a searchable database to keep this as an ongoing activity, but below were the items listed at the retreat.

Who's Doing What @ GWCC

  • Launching GateWay 101, a first year experience program, this fall. CPD150 and computers classes are part of the 1st bloc of classes. (Denise Menchaca)
  • Will be offering MTR101 as self-paced beginning Fall of 1999 (Charlene Almendarez)

Who's Doing What @ CGCC

  • Students in our learning community block class learn humanities, English composition, and technology to, for example, study a film or world literature, research and write, and make and present with Powerpoint and create web pages.   • ÒwebfoliosÓ (web-based portfolios) in some courses

  • Art instructor will try (Fall Ô99) to use computer graphics in traditional drawing and photo classes to enhance learning process (Ted Wolter)

  • EMPWR - Online resources for Math and English faculty to use in development of curriculum or use in classes. Fully connected set of links. (Alex Joncas and Rey Rivera)
  • Diversifying CRE101, ENG102, WomanÕs Studies, Biology, and Communication classes. Websites will follow! (Pearl Williams, Kathleen Iudicello, Mike Farabee, and Cheryl Bradshaw)

  • Language Grouper: Identify language families by grouping common words (Rick Effland)

  • A project to create Internet exercises for Spanish speaking students (no such project exists in electronic form to purchase) (Trino Sandoval)
  • Communicating with the class via the Web: Use of POLIS and e-mail to communicate information and assignments (Scott Hauert)
  • Transferring ENG102 from Pine e-mail delivery to Internet using WebCT (Sutton, Matte, and Sheffied)
  • A project to develop Mini-Cad tutorials and workbooks for Theatre scene design and lighting design (Geoffrey Eroe)
  • A project to create a Pathophysiology Powerpoint presentation for use in the classroom and on a website (Nelly Peterson working with Mary Hefter)
