Ocotillo Spotlight on Instructional Technology
Note: The Ocotillo Spotlight is no longer published, but all previous issues will remain on this site.
spotlight for March 2001
In this first issue of the Ocotillo Spotlight we feature Economics faculty, Charles Pflanz, from Scottsdale Community College, who has taken PowerPoint much farther than text slides. His willingness to share his exerptise is shown in his web site that features examples of PowerPoint tutorials you can download and use.
For April, the spotlight will shine on GateWay Community College, and we will feature an innovation each month from another Maricopa Community College.

PowerPoint Beyond the Basics
Charles Pflanz, Economics Faculty, Scottsdale Community College
http://www.sc.maricopa.edu/dept/sbscience/division/pflanz.html
Once a semester I teach a workshop at SCC called PowerPoint: Beyond the
Basics. The idea of the workshop is to encourage faculty to think
beyond typing lists of bulleted sentences on PowerPoint slides. During
the workshops, I challenge faculty to be creative with background
design, art, images, diagrams, and text so that PowerPoint can be a
stimulating and effective tool for delivering lectures.
Charles Pflanz working his Powerpoint wizardry
During the last
three years, I have also provided individual PowerPoint instruction to
over 30 SCC faculty in areas such as Culinary Arts, Geography, History,
Interior Design, Japanese, Philosophy, and Spanish.
A sample of some of my design ideas can be found at my website, Creative
Techniques for PowerPoint.
The site houses 13 tutorials-- all in
PowerPoint and downloadable for you to work through (samples shown to the left). The topics range
from showing how to mask images in PowerPoint to creating art deco
backgrounds.
