"Hybrid" or "Blended" courses have been on the Ocotillo front for the past few years. Somewhere in the spectrum between face-to-face and fully online classes have developed from grass roots (faculty initiated) and system (college, adminsitrator initiated). Since these new course "species" touch many different portions of a college's "ecosystem": Ocotilo is bring togeher both faculty and adminstrators for a first summit meeting.
This will take place at Estrella Mountain Community College, where hybrid courses have been integrated into the college's mission and strategy. But this summit is not focuses solely on the efforts at Estrella Mountain, and the day will include panel discussions with experience faculty instructors and group activities designed for college teams to better address their own hybrid learning strategy.
We hope that each college identify a team of individuals from across their institution who will work together during the summit to begin to formulate a strategic plan/identify gaps/ etc... based on best practices for implementing a Hybrid Learning Program.
As a bonus, at 2:00 PM, there is an optional tour of the new Ocotillo Hall classroom building that opens this month.
Intended Audience
Teams representing key campus roles in hybrid course development and support including Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs, faculty, Student Support personnel and Instutional Research staff.
How To Participate
Attendance will be limited to teams of 12 individuals from each college. If you wish to participate, please contact your college Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The effort does not end with this day; it is just a beginning. We are hoping this will be a catalyst to start a series of activities this year so we can better build the future Maricopa.
