Ocotillo Textbook & Technology Day 2005
September 16, 2005, 8:00am - 4:00pm, Mesa Community College
What is Text & Technology Day?
Text & Tech day is an opportunity for faculty to dialogue with one another as well as publishers, editors, and textbook & technology authors about teaching with technology. In a variety of forums, Faculty will get the opportunity to discuss, with publishers, editors, and authors, various issues concerned with the production and implementation of technologically enhanced textbooks. All the participating textbook publishers will have booths set up with demonstrations of their various technologies attached to textbooks across the disciplines. (Faculty applying for Faculty Professional Growth credit will select and review at least two technologies implemented into textbooks in their disciplines.)
By inviting the textbook publishers into the dialogue about technologically enhanced textbooks, we will become a part of the production and review process for textbooks and technologies that will be used in the future. Faculty will benefit from listening to the production and distribution issues of technology enhanced textbooks as understood by the publishing companies. Publishing companies will benefit from understanding the wants and needs of the faculty who use the technologically enhanced textbooks.
This event has been organized by last year's Ocotillo Hybrid Courses Action Group co-chair, Shelley Rodrigo (Mesa Community College), as an extension of a campus event created last year focused on English textbooks and technology. Because of the growing use and interest in online supplements provided for all disciplines, we have planned this event as part of the kickoff for Ocotillo activities for 2005-06.
