New Ideas for Ocotillo...
- Need to get more faculty involved in discussions
- Need to have external sources message/validate the need for educational refocus
- Look at the Strategic Conversation as a format for discussion & planning
- How do we move discussion to implementation & application
- Some project based groups bring more focus & involvement
- Need to find a way to involve & include PT Faculty in discussions
- Find way to link discussions to "products", $$, grants, to help implement ideas/approaches. This will increase participation. Helps to bring closure to discussion/ideas.
- STRUCTURE--more planned activities for us left-brainers
- Learning needs a balance between structure and unstructure
- Maybe some modules on how to use some technology like Internet
- Like very much the informal, underlying structure! Relaxed and thought provoking discussion. Variety of feedback ways.
- Disconnect between level/types of student comments and faculty comments
- Course competencis do not align from course-to-course. Requisite skills often missing.
- MCCCD still bound by credit hours = degree
- Need to move to integrated, interdisciplinary teams of faculty => look at elementary and middle school models
- We have taught students to view disciplines as isolated/unrelated. Cannot apply skills to actucal applications
- Assessment should be authentic to reflect skills that will be used in real context.
- Lecture vs. Group
- Sometimes group work is waste of time
- Some lectures (mixed with other pieces) can be effective
- Some subjects may lend themselves to group/co-op learning more than others (i.e. opinion-rich course, e.g. PoliSci, may be toughter to have effective groups than Process/Skill-rich courses e.g. Math, Physics, etc.)
