from SimCity Teacher's Guide

SimCity is a city simulator--a dynamic model of urban life.

In SimCity, you will find simulated citizens (Sims), traffic, commerce, industry, infrastructure, taxes, and every other important aspect of city life. The fact that it is presented in game format takes the tedium out of learning--and teaching.

What really makes SimCity so useful in education is that it is a dynamic model, and not a predetermined set of events. The player really is in control of the city. The model reacts to the players every action and decision. And since SimCity gives instant, visual feedback on all actions and decisions, students intuitively learn about the consequences of their actions and the interrelations of different aspects of the city, all as a by-product of playing the game.
