General Questions for Reviewing Any Web Site

General Review Criteria
authority: What person and/or organization is responsible for the content?

Does the web URL appear to be an "official page" or is it listed in someone's personal web site area?

purpose: Was it clear at first scanning what the purpose was for the site?

After spending some time there, does it seem to meet this purpose?

relevancy: How valuable/unique is the content itself?

Is there clear distinction of fact from opinion?

If currency is important, does it list the date of last changes?

Is the entire site relevant to your content area or just portions? Can portions stand on their own?

Does the site contain only links among its own pages or does it link to other related sites?

usability: Is the wait time tolerable? Are there many broken links?

How is the readability (font, colors, use of space, chunking of content)?


Are pages internally consistent?

Is there a logical organization to the content?

Are there a variety of ways to navigate the content? Is navigation intuitive? with sufficient short-cuts/quick links?


Are there media that require special technologies? (i.e. plug-ins, Java, certain browser versions?) Are the uses meaningful?
