 PROJECT TEAM GUIDE
Building a Team

film can why teams?
The next time you go to a movie, stick around and watch the credits roll at the end. Try to visualize all of the people and the wide range of skills it took just to make that one movie! Movie production is a highly complex process, requiring the work and coordination of many peopla.

Teamwork is something most of us do almost every day. If you are a member of a family, have worked on a committee, or taken part in organized sports, you've participated in teamwork. Many companies now recognize that teams are more creative and productive than individuals working alone.

Because teamwork is so important to success in the field of media production, you should learn how a group of individuals develops into a cohesive unit We suggest that you explore the Studio resources (see below) that provide an overview about the stages that most teams experience. Finally, we suggest that you take a pro-active approach to building a team by including team building activities into your first team meetings and periodically filling out a team evaluation checklist.

film can what about team skills?
Sometimes a project is shaped by the skills available on a team and other times teams must grow to acquire skills called for by a project. Since Studio 1151 is designed to support a multimedia web-delivered project, the makeup of your team would benefit from people that can:

  • navigate and research via the web
  • create computer graphics design, art, and music
  • sketch visual representations of ideas
  • record video and photographic imagery
  • design web sites and/or write computer programs
  • write and edit content
  • plan and organize complex events
  • Negotiate and procure "items"
If your team lacks these skill areas they must either learn "on-the-job" or some tasks may be contracted out. With the rapid revolutions of Internet/multimedia technology, the skill to learn as you go is a norm.
