Teaching and Learning with Technology Grants
About
The Teaching and Learning with Technology Grants Program supports projects designed to advance teaching and learning through innovative learning technology (please note that this program is separate and distinct from the Learning Grants Program).
Areas of Interest
Emerging Technologies
Projects submitted for this area should be supported by research.
Research strategies must include methodology, pre and post data, and end-of-project reporting that allows for and enables reproduction at other sites.
- Emerging technologies to be derived from Educause Learning Initiative or New Media Consortium emerging technology research and development
- Other emerging technology proposals may be considered that significantly address teaching and learning issues
- Identified trends or needs that impact teaching and learning with technology (i.e., web 2.0 applications, instructional tools, open source products)
Research and further implementation of Maricopa-purchased learning technology tools (i.e., Blackboard tools, Soft Chalk, Wimba, Respondus, StudyMate, Google Apps, etc.)
Blended/Hybrid Learning
- Faculty development related to supporting the diffusion of district-wide blended/hybrid learning initiatives
- Areas of support may include online interaction, integration of face-to-face with online instruction, instructional design, assessment, student preparedness, academic integrity, copyright, or any other topic related to blended/hybrid learning.
Proposal Guidelines
The Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, in conjunction with the Instructional Technology Leadership Council (iTLC), is seeking Teaching and Learning with Technology Grant proposals for projects to take place during the 2008-2009 academic year (for two full semesters). Members of the Instructional Technology Leadership Council (iTLC) will review all proposals.
Criteria used in evaluating proposals include:
- Quality of the proposal, including merit of the topic, clarity of expression, and relevance to the areas of interest
- Connection to district-wide initiatives, priorities and challenges: retention, persistence, completion and developmental education
- Utilization of an innovative use of a learning technique or methodology
- Proposal’s infusion of curriculum with learner-centered technology
- Clear connection among learning technologies, teaching, and student learning
- Involvement of a team, either from a single institution or among institutions (individual proposals are also accepted)
- Scalability and replicability of the project to a district-wide or multiple college level
Proposal Submission Procedures
Full grant applications will be accepted from March 24 – August 29, 2008. All applications must be submitted before 5:00 p.m. on August 29, 2008 to be considered. All grants will be reviewed after the deadline. Awards will be announced by the end of October 2008.
Applicants are required to discuss their project idea with their Vice President of Academic Affairs and may also want to discuss their ideas with their faculty development coordinator and department/division chair. Teaching and Learning with Technology Grant proposals are awarded via a Special Services Employment contract for extended time.
